Rémi Dufay

Rémi Dufay (1992) developed his practice at the école supérieure d'arts et médias in Caen (2010-15) and then at the Haute école d'art et de design in Geneva (2015-17). At the same time, he took over for a year as director of the student festival Court-Circuit (2013-14) and worked on setting up two temporary art schools in France (2016), whose experiences culminated in the book Sur le retour - une recherche critique sur le collectif en école d'art (2017). At the end of his course, he joined the Action research programme at La Manufacture - Haute école des arts de la scène de Lausanne (2018). The following year, Rares Donca included him in the first intake of emerging artists at L'Abri.
A visual artist with close ties to the performing arts, he created his first poetic show, D'amour et d'eau fraîche (2019), at the Bâtie-Festival in Geneva. Since then, he has co-written a number of stage creations with performer Yan Duyvendak (Grand prix suisse du Théâtre 2019), which have been presented internationally (Invisible, 2019 and We are everywhere, 2020), notably at the Santarcangelo Festival and the Théâtre National Wallonie Bruxelles. He frequently takes part in group exhibitions and collaborates as a dramaturge and video artist with a number of artists.
With the support of ProHelvetia, he has benefited from several residencies in Switzerland and abroad: NIDO - Festival Internacional de Artes Vivas in Uruguay (2020); Ujazdowski Castle - Centre for Contemporary Art in Poland (2020-21); auawirleben Theaterfestival Bern 2022 in Switzerland; Biennale de Toulouse 2022 in France. In 2022, he won the prestigious Leenaards Cultural Grant for the Performing Arts.
At the same time, Rémi Dufay has been a member of the programming team at the Geneva art space àDuplex since 2017. In 2020, he founded the audiovisual production company Videoclub, which makes videos for local cultural players. Finally, he has just completed a mandate to coordinate the BIG - Biennale des espaces d'art de Genève (2018-23), whose last edition at the Perle du Lac was the biggest event organised on the lake in Geneva.
